Job Summary:

The Senior Construction Superintendent is responsible for managing day-to-day operations on construction sites, ensuring compliance with safety regulations, coordinating subcontractors and laborers, and overseeing the quality and efficiency of construction activities. This position involves close interaction with project managers, architects, engineers, and clients to ensure project milestones and goals are met.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Project Oversight:

    • Supervise and manage all construction activities on-site to ensure the project is progressing according to the schedule and within budget.
    • Collaborate with the Project Manager to set timelines, deliverables, and budget expectations.
    • Develop and implement site-specific safety protocols and ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
    • Direct daily activities on-site, ensuring the quality of work meets construction specifications and plans.
  2. Team Leadership:

    • Lead, mentor, and manage on-site construction teams, including subcontractors, laborers, and other construction personnel.
    • Assign tasks, ensure adequate resources are available, and oversee team performance.
    • Facilitate effective communication between field staff, project management, and the client.
  3. Quality Control & Safety:

    • Inspect work to ensure adherence to plans, codes, and quality standards.
    • Conduct regular safety meetings, enforce safety protocols, and monitor site conditions for safety hazards.
    • Ensure that all tools and equipment are properly maintained and that the site is organized and clean.
  4. Scheduling & Coordination:

    • Develop and maintain construction schedules, ensuring milestones are met and identifying potential delays or issues.
    • Coordinate with subcontractors, suppliers, and other stakeholders to ensure timely delivery of materials and completion of tasks.
    • Resolve any delays, conflicts, or challenges that arise during the construction process.
  5. Documentation & Reporting:

    • Keep accurate records of daily activities, including work completed, issues encountered, and any changes to scope or schedule.
    • Provide regular project updates to senior management, project managers, and clients.
    • Review and approve timecards, change orders, and other project-related documentation.
  6. Problem Solving & Decision Making:

    • Troubleshoot and resolve any on-site challenges, including unforeseen issues, delays, or safety concerns.
    • Make quick decisions to resolve conflicts or mitigate risks to the project.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Experience: Minimum of 10 years of experience in construction management or as a superintendent, with at least 5 years in a senior or lead role.
  • Certifications: OSHA 30-Hour certification (required), First Aid/CPR (preferred), PMP or other project management certifications (preferred).
  • Skills:
    • Strong leadership and team management abilities.
    • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
    • Knowledge of construction processes, building codes, and safety regulations.
    • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and construction documents.
    • Strong problem-solving, time management, and organizational skills.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to work on construction sites, walk, stand, and lift materials when necessary.

Work Environment:

  • Construction sites in all weather conditions.
  • Occasional evening, weekend, or overtime work depending on project needs.
